Unikkatil photo from 1992

Albanian-rap used to be much different before Unikkatil emerged. It used to be positive and was American-influenced, with even borrowed word's such as "ghetto" and "gangsta" from American Hip-Hop, however it virtually always delivered a positive message, and it rarely described real Albanian lives. With Unikkatil in it however, everything changed, apart from being explicit, his lyrics were not influenced by American-Hiphop whatsoever, and for the first time a rapper's lyrics were actually honest, provocative and at times offensive, to the point violence between his supporters and enemies often exploded.
