Opened the largest mosque in the Southern Hemisphere
South African President, Jacob Zuma, has had the honor of opening the largest mosque in the Southern Hemisphere, "Nizami Mashid", which is located in Midrand Johannesburg.
The mosque was built with the help of Turkish businessman, Ali Katirciogluu. This 75-year-old has dreamed to build mosque in the U.S., but eventually realized his goal in Africa.
The mosque has four minarets high by 55 meters and is surrounded by a complex where Islamic schools, shopping centers and a clinic for which the Turk was inspired during the visit he made former President Nelson Mandela.
